[The Execution of Rube Goldfish]

Do SpongeBob fans hate him that much? I've only watched one episode he's in, and that was one where Patrick took him to tour around Bikini Bottom, and then he fades away into nothing at the end.

Yes I’ve seen that episode. And you would think that would be his only appearance. Kind of like a one off character. But no he continued to keep appearing in stuff like “The Tidal Zone” and he’s since kind of become a recurring character. People hate him because he’s always over enthusiastic, grating voice, all he does is take pictures and say “AMAZING!” So yes he’s hated by lots of SpongeBob fans. More so those who grew up with the show since Day One. But I’m pretty sure some modern fans hate him too. He also appears sometimes as a background character or used for forced appearances where he takes a picture and then utters his catchphrase “AMAZING!”
